ABOUT THE ARTIST

“The artist alone sees spirits. But after he has told of their appearing to him, everybody sees them.”
Goethe

Los Angeles based artist, Amber Kobel, has been honing her skills professionally for a decade. Originally starting out in L.A. as a Web Designer and Model, quietly dabbling in art, she quickly found herself fully immersed into the place she felt most at home, with a pencil in hand and imagination at heart.

“Art has been the foundation of my life since birth. I grew up in a home filled with books, film and music. As much as I love books and film, I was always deeply connected to music. Music directly went into my little soul and created harmony, curiosity and freedom.
Music is not just sound and words; humans are not just skin and bones. Beneath each entity lies the soul laid bare. Each with it’s own rhythm and melody. The composition of a human and of music have their own basic structure, but what lies beneath is boundless.”

Starting out in simple pencil portraiture led into hyper-realism. As the years went on she introduced other elements into her craft; such as fantasy watercolor, colored pencil illustrations and realistic classical paintings. The use of reality commands the viewer, pushing the boundaries with emotion. With mixed media, Amber is able to choose the heaviness of her composition with different movements.

Outside of art, Amber’s hobbies and interests are her Pomeranians, reading, cooking, and of course, concerts and listening to all kinds of music.
